On “coolest kids on instagram”, onions in the laundry, and jorts;)

December 20, 2013

Excited to share a neat opportunity we had;)

A few weeks ago I got a sweet email from a sweet lady named Katie who writes for SHE KNOWS Parenting.
It is a parenting website/magazine that shares stories, tips, etc.
She asked about sharing a bit of our boys from my instagram account in an article.
I was beyond humbled and excited that she would want to use us and said yes;)
Then yesterday she sent me the link to the story.
We are on the 13th page, seen HERE

Katie, thank you;)
You captivate families and photos beautifully and I am still beyond humbled you shared us;)
It is neat to see the internet community come together and become friends and supporters of one another;)
And I am excited to learn about SHE KNOWS Parenting site, because I seem to know less and less with each day…and I am loving the tips I find on your site;)

To be honest, “knowing” is nowhere near where this mama is right now.
I feel like each day more that I am a parent, I seem to know less.
I am constantly trying to figure out this parenting thing and how to parent two very different boys;)

Shoot, today, I washed an onion in the machine with our clothes.

Now I know why people may avoid us in the next few days…onion scented clothes?;) (I am too stingy and did not rewash the clothes…detergent is expensive here!;)

And the article refers to these 13 instagram accounts as “Instagram’s coolest kids”
Now, I agree that our kids are the coolest not just on instagram, but the world;)
But do not, my friends, think for a second they got it from me;)
I wore leggings with stirrups (from OshKosh Bgosh) until 9th grade
WITH oversized sweaters to my knees…maybe past my knees
AND Keds shoes (they were NOT cool then…in fact I got called out while wearing them up to the dry erase board to work out a math problem by one of the cool girls…THAT was a meltdown day;)

Not only that, but I also did not see Forrest Gump until I was 24
So the cool factor did not come from me.

Maybe from their dad?
No, he was wearing black jorts (jean shorts) until the year we got married.
I fixed that 1 week into marriage;)
(sidenote: to Raja’s defense, he was working as medical director of a hospital in the middle of a group of tea plantations and villages…he NEVER saw the inside of restaurant except when he drove an hour into the city or flew to Kolkata…so…jorts were totally acceptable…until I joined him in this wild frontier, that is;))

Haha.
So all that to say, Adam and Elliot…you guys are COOL and I am glad you were spared your father’s and my cool category genes;)
And SHE KNOWS Parenting, thank you for being a place that shares stories and parent’s honesty with all of us who are learning how to parent
And thank you for sharing our family yesterday;)
Truly, an honor;)
It makes us feel less alone
And alone is not a good place to be in any part of life
