Adam’s progress

February 17, 2012

I realize I did not post yesterday, and I am sorry.

Adam is continuing to recover well.

Swelling is going down and he is increasing in his frustration of having so many tubes attached to him.

They plan to extubate (which means remove the breathing tube) this morning.

He has been on breathing tubes/ventilator since surgery.

This is mainly because of the length of surgery (over 8 hours under anesthesia) and the amount of repair that was done to his mouth which really decreased the size of his mouth/airway (which has always been unusually big due to the significant cleft lip and lack of nose).

Also, they kept him on the ventilator in order to let the tissues that have been radically changed around his mouth rest and heal well.

They have scheduled time in the OR for Adam this morning at 730 am.

They plan to remove the breathing tubes in the OR just so they can be prepared unless they need to put tubes back in, etc.

We have hope that Adam will do perfectly fine on his own without the ventilator. He has been breathing deep breaths with it/over it since yesterday.

Please pray this morning that all goes well!

I will write more later today.

Love to you all.

singing this hymn this morning:
Great is His faithfulness. Morning by morning new mercies we see. Thou fadeset not. Thy compassions, they fail not. As Thou has been, Thou FOREVER will be.
