In my youth, the words of Solomon often left me a bit perplexed
Maybe even a bit depressed and fearful of what was to come
If there is nothing new under the sun, then why continue existence?
If what has happened will only be done again, then why do anything?
Is nothing worthwhile?
Does nothing withstand time and breath?
Those were thoughts that used to consume my mind
Then I read the zinger from Solomon’s 1st verse in Ecclesiastes
“for with much wisdom comes much sorrow, the more knowledge, the more grief”
That nearly consumed my worrisome mind.
Why seek knowledge and wisdom if only grief and sorrow would come?
I could not find the encouragement Solomon was seeking to give
What muse was hidden within these deep, gloomy verses for me to cling to?
Then I met the Maker of Solomon
I met his Maker, and my own
I met the Author of Life
I met this God man who became flesh in a feeding trough
And whose Piety and Perfection from a Holy Throne collided
With my imperfection and finiteness
I met this God who collided with my world so that I could enter His world
I met this God who came as beauty and became ashes
So that my ashes could become beauty
And I realized that He is the muse
He was the meaning hidden in those verses of old
He was where the secret hope of meaning to life lied within those words of Solomon
I realized that something does withstand time and breath
I learned that there is actually comfort in the foreboding words of Solomon
There is nothing new under the sun, because
He was
And
He is
And
He is to come
And He was before all things and in Him all things are held together
And though it seems frightening that sorrow and grief increase
There is comfort
Because He is the “God of all comfort”
I was spending time seeking worldly comforts
When the God of all comfort was waiting for me
I needed to turn from worldly comforts
To the God of all comfort
He was waiting with nail pierced hands
And He had already done a cosmic shift
That my eyes had yet to see
And He was there to give meaning to areas I saw no meaning
And I realized that nothing new will be done again because this is just momentary
And we are all the same
Generations, we come
Generations, we go
We mess up
Because we are messes
But if we grasp hold of the Maker of the Moon
And if we realize that same Maker also cares for the orphan & widow
And if we realize that He came to make our chaos clean
And if we see that He takes foolish things to shame the wise, it all makes sense
And if we listen closely and read to the end of the Book
We see that He will turn our sorrow into Joy
And we see that He will wipe every tear
But meanwhile, on this pilgrim journey towards Him
He gives us Hope that He is with us
And it is a sure Hope and an anchor for our souls
Let me tell you how this Hope transformed how I saw my first born son
His name is now Adam
But it wasn’t for his first few days
He had no name
He was left in a baby warmer in a rural hospital in northeast India
Eventually, not even the baby warmer was free for him
So he was placed in a cardboard box
Not only did he not have a name
But he also had no eyelids nor fingers and a severe cleft lip and palate
He had a lot of physical abnormalities
But his insides, they were all normal
My husband and I met him
We were serving in this hospital as a nurse and doctor
We knew what people were saying
We knew he was seen as a curse
But something different was beating in our hearts
It was almost as though sacred blood was pulsing thru us
And really it was and the same pulses thru you
Once you know Him
(Because it is no longer us who live, Galations says
But Him who lives in us)
And that sacred blood was perfusing our hearts with
A deep deep love
And a deep deep conviction
The cosmic shift of our own adoption
(From being orphans in the gutters of this fading world
To being sons and daughters of the Most High)
Awakened us
And to make a long story short, we adopted this little one
His name became Adam Peniel Paulraj
He has since had 10 reconstructive surgeries
Abba Father has moved mountains on His behalf
Hundreds of thousands of dollars has been given
And Adam has overcome
He has amazed us all
Because His Maker overcame on the Cross
Initially given 2 months to live
He is about to turn 2 years old
He communicates
He has learned sign language
He claps his hands
He bickers with his brother
He is incredibly mobile despite leg abnormalities
And he leads to praise on Holy Ground with each breath that he takes
Dear ones, “she does justice”
Because He did Justice.
Because that is just it
My questions from my youth…
“what can withstand time?”
They were answered
Justice can withstand time
Because His one act of Justice withstood all of time
On that old piece of wood thousands of years ago
He is in the business of doing justice
Again and again
He rejoices in making beauty from ashes
He rejoices in taking what should not and making it so
He finds pleasure in making the foolish things true
In order to shame us, wise
He took this little boy that was seen as a curse
He took this one who’s village was planning to kill him
And He redeemed this little life
And made beauty
And He is doing it a thousand times over
Maybe in your life or the life of your loved ones
Maybe you are still longing for it in a way
Press on, dear one
Hold on
For He is an anchor
And though at times, the grief and pain in this world
In this present darkness
May threaten to overcome us
And though it does seem that the more wisdom and sorrow
Only serve to bring more grief
Rest assured
He is our wisdom
He was a man of many sorrows, yet He overcome true sorrow
He overcame death
Because He is a God of Justice
And He wants us to continue bringing forth Justice
In this world
And not only does He want us to
But He enables us to
He pulses His blood thru us
He sanctifies us and empowers us
And it is beautiful
