How is Adam Doing?

August 30, 2013

Greeting you early on this humid North Carolina morning from our little hospital room.
You know, there is something beautiful about waking up in North Carolina.
I have always loved it, from days camping and staying in my aunt and uncle’s mountain cabin in Franklin, to summer camp days in Asheville, to these summer mornings in Chapel Hill.
I do not necessarily enjoy waking up in a hospital, but alas, if it has to be…North Carolina is a good place to do it;)
So I am thankful.
Adam is doing better.
He has not had a fever in about 16 hours.
He still has a pretty bad cough.
But it is getting better.
He slept pretty well thru the night, but having a lot of secretions, he wakes up every 2 hours or so and has a minute or so long coughing episode and usually needs suctioning.
They think he most likely had a bad case of tracheitis.
Good news is his lungs were clear and not indicating any fluid in the lungs, etc.
Also there does not seem to be an indication of a UTI.
So we are thankful for that.
We probably have another day or so in the hospital.
Thank you for your prayers.
Also, just to clarify, Adam does not have any more procedures/operations/ etc planned for this year.
Probably not for a year or 2 actually.
The next operation will most likely be his nose reconstruction.
But that will be definitely more than a year away.
Prayer needs:
Continued healing and rest for all;)
love this photograph painted on the roof of the Ronald McDonald room…so thankful for places like that room that offer a bit of respite to many parents and siblings and family members. There are a lot of heavy stories pacing the walls of this hospital. Increases my longing for the balm of His Blood, Holy, to ease and put an end to this ache. Trusting He did and He will;)
Thankful for fall flavored coffees and Valley of Vision prayers;)
This little book pictured above is the Valley of Vision (from Isaiah 22).
It is a collection of Puritan Prayers.
It is vital for me and is always tucked between my Word and Moleskin.
It many times guides words out of my mouth in heavy times when I do not know what to pray.
These words soothed my soul and redirected my gaze Heavenwards yesterday.
“in my distress let me not forget this.
All wise God, Thy never failing providence orders every event,
sweetens every fear,
reveals evils presence lurking in seeming good,
brings good out of seeming evil,
makes unsatisfactory what I set my heart upon,
to show me what a short sighted creature I am,
and to teach me to live by faith upon Thy blessed self.
Out of sorrow and night give me the name Naphtali-‘satisfied with favor”
help me to love Thee as Thy child”.

So I had to laugh and snap a picture of this moment. So since Adam was dehydrated and his electrolytes were a bit off from 2 days of fever…he was only on Pedialyte for a period of time. The first time they started pumping formula into his little stomach (he has a gtube) he sat up for a good 10 minutes. He just stared ahead and kept playing with his pillow. It was as if he felt he was coming back to life. Oh I love this personality. He also kept doing sign language for ‘thank you’, not matter how out of it he was to the Respiratory Therapist. Love him.
My husband knows how to pack an overnight bag for me;) And I think its safe to say I miss our asian home;)

sweet Little Bear came to visit Adam and I yesterday. We got to do a good bit of exploring outside. Love him so;)

Jessica, So, so grateful that you took the time to provide an update. I will continue to pray that the infection will disappear quickly and that Adam will be comfortable. Had a chuckle at the Indian food from Trader Joe's – it looked too familiar!

Wow – what an absolutely amazing story your family has! I was brought to tears as you described holding your son in the hospital room. I too have had experience in that area. It is a helpless place, but God works when we are helpless! Thank you so much for sharing your story, and for listening to God's calling to save baby Adam. He is a miracle and no doubt God has him on this earth for a reason!
